Houston CIT Program Wins Two Awards

 

Lilly Reintegration Award

The Houston CIT program was awarded second place in the Advocacy Category of this national awards program. The award, sponsored by Eli Lilly and Company, recognizes the outstanding achievements of people and programs that provide necessary support for those with schizophrenia and related disorders to reintegrate into their communities. The award was presented on October 21, 2000, in Washington, D.C.An independent panel of psychiatric care professionals reviewed each entry and judged it according to planning, execution, and evaluation of the reintegration program.

Texas State Mental Health Association Award

The Mental Health Association in Texas presented a “Special Recognition” award to three Texas law enforcement agencies: the Houston Police Department, the Fort Worth Police Department, and the Travis County Sheriff’s Department. The awards were presented for exemplary programs regarding law enforcement response to the mentally ill. The Mental Health Association in Texas would like to see these model programs replicated in other law enforcement agencies across the state.
