Mike Lucas and Gloria Gil won three of the five dances and came in second place over all.  The top three dancers walked away with all the awards that year.  While I was busy taking pictures, I heard a lot of buzz about, "Did you see that HOT LA Couple?"  They were talking about Mike & Gloria.  In 1985 both Gloria and Mike had been in Phil Adams Friday night West Coast Swing class for years and they were at the top of their game, and it certainly showed in this competition.  The bulbs in the cameras flashed along with the compliments for the stylish western costumes worn by Mike and Gloria.  Until this competition dancers had worn the Kenny Rogers, his/her type costumes.  But now Gloria changed all that with her innovative designs and people were taking hordes of pictures to use her ideas as reference for next years competition.   Gloria Gil nearly single-handedly changed the way dancers dressed for competition for years to come!
